New Dem Candidates in Florida Sweep Pivotal Elections for House Majority

Washington, D.C. — Tonight, New Democrat Coalition Action Fund (NDAF) Chair Greg Stanton (AZ-04) issued a statement after NDAF-endorsed candidates Bale Dalton (FL-07), Leela Gray (FL-13), and Pia Dandiya (FL-22) won their primary elections and advanced to the general election:

“Florida Democrats just nominated three of the strongest candidates in the country. Pia, Bale, and Leela have spent their careers in service — in the classroom, in uniform, and in their communities. They’ve earned the trust of voters who are fed up with rising costs, corrupt politicians, and Republicans who won't lift a finger to help them," said NDAF Chair Greg Stanton (AZ-04). "Florida Republicans will regret their gerrymander come November as our candidates and incumbents help New Dems deliver the majority and beyond."

Gray, Dalton, and Dandiya will take on Republican incumbent Anna Paulina Luna (FL-13) and Republican Nominees Ryan Elijah and Casey Askar, respectively. 

New Dem incumbents Reps. Jared Moskowitz (FL-23) and Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-25) fended off challenges from the left. Moskowitz and Rep. Darren Soto (FL-09) will be essential to flipping the House as they compete in newly-gerrymandered districts that favor Republicans. 

These victories continue New Dem candidates’ strong primary performance nationwide – more than 92 percent of NDAF candidates have won their primaries. Elsewhere in the country, New Dems are awaiting the results in the special general election in California’s 14th District.
